Lately I’ve been obsessed with reading about how to make money through blogging. I realize I can benefit from a little time spent reading and learning so that next year I can implement things to try and make blogging a more substantial financial option for me. Right now I jokingly refer to it as my “negative money business” but I know that with a little knowledge and some hard work I can easily make more money online.
What I’m learning is that the concepts of seo and niche marketing and all of that can definitely be applied to my blog to give me a leg up on the competition. Already without much work I’ve managed to build a growing popular blog within the niche I write. I’m pretty confident I can build an even greater stream of constant google search visitors who will keep me earning money no matter what. So I am trying to learn how to dominate the search engines, which is something my competition seems mostly clueless about. There are some who get it and are right up there with me in the rankings already, but I’m pretty sure I can kick their asses once I start working on it for real. I’m pretty hardcore and smart about things.
I’ve also noticed the vast amounts of crap writing there is online about making money online. Seriously there is soo much bullshit online that it is easy to see how people get sucked into trying to make money only to fail. There are hundreds of different ways to make money and then hundreds of different people “teaching” how to do that whether they make money doing it or not. Okay, there are thousands upon thousands of these. And the funniest part is how many blogs that are written to teach people how to make money actually make no money at all. NONE. Fascinating I think. And incredibly easy to see how people get sucked into wanting to make money but failing. They follow one false pipe dream after another, never putting in the hard work or time to learn and do what it really takes.
I have found a few decent teaching sources that are free and seem to be coming from people that actually make money online, not just lie about it so they can make money online. They write more about the specifics of what to do and then tell you to go do the work to make it done. No ebooks to buy, no crap projects to complete. Just an outline for their version of success which involves niche blogs for adsense mostly, which parts can be taken away and applied to my situation.
For me I’m going more of the flagship blog route. I’m pretty sure however, that I’m not going the typical A-lister route. I don’t want to be a blogger that uses my readership to squeeze money out of them. I know it would be super easy considering my niche, but I’m not that kind of girl. I don’t want to sell them crap products or even create my own and market them to death. I might at one point start writing short guides that are ebooks but I would only want to charge a donation. If they want them for free they get them for free. I’d much rather figure out a way to make a living online through advertisers than through squeezing my readers to pay me. If they want to donate fine. Otherwise I don’t want to bother them anymore than just to deal with the ads on my blog.
But for some reason most bloggers these days are going another route. It’s all about writing and selling ebooks. Bah. It wouldn’t be hard, but I really am not a fan of this particular method. Especially the people who are making money teaching people how to do this. Paying someone money to teach you how to write and promote an ebook that may or may not make money seems ridiculous. So I stay clear of those particular prophets in the make money online world.
Instead I’m learning about what it takes to get google search visitors. The more steady traffic I can depend on the less I need to worry about whether or not I have readers. I know I will keep gaining readers because my content kicks ass and I’m a great writer. But I want to make sure my income from the blogs keep growing so for that I’m planning to get more traffic instead of trying to sell to my readers. I think this is the nicest way to go about making money as a blogger.
And what I’ve learned is the most important thing is BACKLINKS. Ahhh! Those scary things that I don’t have enough of are what will help me rank better for keywords that people use to find my blog. I already do pretty well in the serps, but I could dominate with a little bit of work. So my plan in the next month is to backlink like crazy to my existing blogs while still developing content. I can build the authority of my blogs now and then in a few months I will benefit from the efforts as I gain more and more search visitors and make more and more money off of them. Woot!
So with that little nugget of information online I have to start developing my plan of attack for building backlinks for roughly four blogs that I’ve decided to keep as my authority/flagship blogs. One already has this status and the rest are relatively new blogs with few backlinks and no page rank. So they have the most need for the backlink strategy, but I’m actually going to start with the biggest and baddest site first. I have a feeling if I start there and make it a powerhouse that is earning me more money I can will be more comfortable with the time it takes me to get my other blogs built up and making money too.
So I’m off to learn more about the best ways to build backlinks. Soon I will have my plan in place and get to work putting action behind all these words. I can’t wait until I make it happen and start earning a full time income online.
